[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having estrogenic properties and useful for promoting the growth of meat-producing animals contain the novel benzoic acid lactones of Ithe formula wherein A is -CH=CH- or -CH 2 -CH 2 -; B is C=Q, CHOH, and CH 2 , with the proviso that A is -CH 2 , and R is independently H, C 1-6 alkyl, saturated acyclic C 1-6 acyl, or benzyl; and X and Y are H, NO 2 , NH 2 , dialkylamine, diazonium mineral acid salt, CN, OH, aryl, alkenyl; alkyl, acyl or alkoxy, with the proviso that not more than one of X and is H, as .the active ingredient. The above compositions may be in the form suitable for parenteral administration or as an animal feedstuff, which may also contain vitamins and antibiotics. |
