The catalyst may be supported on SiO 2 and may as a last preparative step be calcined at 400-500‹C. The catalyst may have the formula sSiO 2 .mMoO 3 . tTeO 3 in which m/s is 6 to 24 and m/t is 0.5 to 12 or the formula sSiO 2 .mMoO 3 .tTeO 3 . fFe 2 O 3 , m/f being 3 to 72.
