Measures the amount of slack occurring and by means of electric signals changes the roll speed of the mills such as to produce a pre-set amount of slack. Advantages over the use of a photo-electric cells are that the television camera has a wider field of vision and can resolve the shape of the toop which gives a better quantitative indication of the correction required. The picture taken by the tube is scanned by a deflection signal generator capable of producing two kinds of saw tooth shaped impulses of different frequencies for the vertical and horizontal displacements of the loop; these impulses are signalled to a controller which makes then the necessary adjustment in roll speed. The controller is also equipped with a memory bank enabling it to interpret the shape of the wire loop as reported by the generator.
