A hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody in a specimen is assayed by immunoassay utilizing a specific avidity between an antigen peptide compound having the following amino acid sequence (1) or (2) and an HCV antibody: Leu-Ser-Gly-Arg-Pro-Ala-Ile-Val-Pro-Asp-Arg-Glu-Val-Leu-Tyr-Gln-Glu-Ph e-Asp-Glu (1); Val-Asn-Gln-Arg-Ala-Val-Val-Ala-Pro-Asp-Lys-Glu-Val-Leu-Tyr-Glu-Ala-Ph e-Asp-Glu (2). This method permits simple and accurate identification of the serotype of a specimen while suppressing the cross reaction or a nonspecific reaction, accurate estimation of a possible therapeutic effect of interferons, and simplification of observation about the healing or the progress of treatment of hepatitis C. <IMAGE> |
