摘要 1291496 Producing composite sheets; jointing by rolling; welding by pressure TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 21 Nov 1969 [18 Dec 1968] 57179/69 Headings B3A B3M and B3R A method for forming a composite metallic member for a thermostat comprises contacting cleaned surfaces of at least two layers of metal at least one of the layers being iron or an iron alloy having an oxide film and squeezing the metals with a reduction in thickness to form a partial solid phase bond and then heating to a temperature below any of the melting points of the metals and for a sufficient period of time to cause dispersion of oxides from between the contacting surfaces and to induce diffusion of the layers to completely bond the layers. Preferably the squeezing is performed in a rolling mill and the thickness of the layers is reduced by 50% and the initially-bonded composite is heated to a sufficiently high temperature to d isperse all oxides from the interfaces into the metal layers. The heating may be carried out in a single batch or progressively along the length of the composite material by means of a conventional strip annealing process. The metal may be iron or iron alloy materials of Ni, Cr, Mn, Al, Mo, Co, C. A partial diffusion step may preceed the high temperature treatment by heating in a conventional bell annealing furnace.
