1,145,594. Folding containers from blanks. FEDERAL PAPER BOARD CO. Inc. 23 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 3339/67. Heading BSD. [Also in Division B8] Upwardly bowed score lines 23, 24, 25, 23<SP>1</SP>, 24<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 4) form flat panels joining the polygonal base 12 of a container to a curved wall formed by two rectangular panels 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. The container is folded from a single blank, and flaps 28, 28<SP>1</SP>, 29, 29<SP>1</SP> on the base glue to the side wall. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, a container having a circular upper cross-section and a hexagonal lower cross-section is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 4. The blank is folded in U-shape around the central panel 12 and the side panels 13, 13<SP>1</SP> are folded around in tubular form and joined at their side edges. Tabs 28, 29 are adhered to the areas 24, 25 respectively. A mandrel to assist in folding is shown in Fig. 5 (not shown). The container may be closed by a lid 36. In other forms described, the container has an upper circular cross-section and a lower square cross-section, Fig. 7 (not shown). The container shown in Fig. 11 has a part-circular upper cross-section and a rectangular lower cross-section. An end member 40, having a centre opening 81 with a fraction cap 82, is crimp sealed to the upper edges of the container. The member 80 may be made from e.g. metal or plastics. |
