Crude hexabromobenzene is purified by dissolution in a brominated hydrocarbon, preferably dibromoethane, (preferably 1 pt of hexabromobenzene is 10-20 pts by wt. of solvent), heating for 30-120 min to just below the b.p., filtration, and slow cooling to room temperature, followed by separation of the crystals.
