PURPOSE:To make long-term stable operation possible by arranging mechanical seal between separators, cells, spacers and metallic meshes, inserting and press-fitting plural metallic meshes between a fuel electrode and the separators, and preventing the stress crack of a solid electrolyte layer caused by a heat cycle. CONSTITUTION:A fuel cell is constituted by laying alternately plate type unit cells 3 where a fuel electrode 5 and an air electrode 6 are arranged so as to sandwich a solid electrolyte layer 4 between them and separators 1 which connect the adjacent unit cells 3 electrically in series to each other and distribute fuel gas and oxidating agent gas to the respective unit cells. The separators 1 are a plate type sintered body, and gas supply and discharge holes are arranged in the four corners, and a groove 1c is arranged on an electrode surface. The spacers 2 are formed of partially stabilizing zirconia or heat resistant metal, and gas supply and discharge holes are arranged in the four corners. Meshes 7 are interposed in an elastically compressed condition between the separators 1 and the fuel electrode 5. The meshes 7 are divided into plural parts by the dividing parts 10. Respective gases are supplied to the fuel cell having such constitution from gas supply holes on the periphery, and are flowed to the surfaces of both electrodes of the unit cells 3, and are discharged from exhaust holes, and electric power is generated. |
