Tape, which becomes coloured in presence of H2O, is produced by mixing dehydrated colour-forming reactants (e.g. NH4Fe(SO4)2 and K4Fe(CN)6) intimately in suitable strongly polar solvent or dispersant (e.g. dry dimethylformamide) and applying to one side of dry tape (e.g. clean, dry glass fibre tape). - T'is tape is esp. useful for locating leaks in reactors using water under pressure, esp. primary systems in nuclear power stations. Costs are about 2/3 lower than usual and tape reacts much more rapidly and gives more intense coloration.
