1296109 Pile fabrics POLYMER CORP Ltd 6 Nov 1970 [24 Nov 1969] 52987/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] Double-backed tufted carpets are made by passing pile fibres through a woven or non- woven textile backing and adhering them thereto by means of a latex composition of a film-forming polymer, drying the applied latex coating and adhering a scrim to the underside of the pile fibre/textile composite by means of a thermoplastic polymeric composition. The latex employed is preferably an aqueous latex of styrene/butadiene, acrylonitrile/butadiene, acrylonitrile/isoprene copolymers, resin reinforced styrene/butadiene copolymers or carboxylated styrene/butadiene, acrylontrile/butadiene or methacrylonitrile/butadiene copolymers and may also contain fillers, thickeners, foaming agents, antioxidants, tackifiers and curing agents. The latex may be applied in liquid or foam form by doctor blade, spraying or lick roller. The thermoplastic composition is preferably a rubbery block copolymer such as polystyrene/polybutadiene/polystyrene, polyalphamethylstyrene/polybutadiene/polyalphame. thylstyrene or polyalphamethylstyrene/polybutadiene/polystyrene. There are preferably compounded with microcrystalline wax, a hydrocarbon resin and talc. Polypropylene fibres may be used to form the tufts, the backing and the scrim. |
