Fuel cell electrode and geometrical design

An aqueous electrolyte is retained in a porous matrix and the cell has feed systems for gaseous fuel and oxidant. Each electrode is mechanically joined to a porous reservoir the pore distribution curves of both electrode and reservoir, which relate change of volume to change of radius as a function of radius, either overlap or coincide. The electrode and reservoir are between 20-50% filled with electrolyte. The electrodes, reservoirs and outer walls are so designed with grooves and ribs and the gas distribution system they form, has a uniform gas flow rate to all active parts of the cell.
