Moist particles, e.g. separated from a liquid by a centrifuge, which are likely to stick together, cake or prematurely harden, are dried by using a heated gas to pass them along a shaft with heated walls. The particles give up enough moisture to prevent their sticking, and may then be introduced into a further drier. Typically used for drying alpha-CaSO4.1/2 H2O or CaSO4.2H2O.
