1,187,178. Mixing by compression. INTERCOLE AUTOMATION Inc. 26 July, 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 35929/68. Heading B1C. ` A rotor for a Banbury mixer has four helical blades in two pairs with the blades 70a, 70b and 70c, 70d of each pair diametrically opposite one another, the leading surfaces L and trailing surfaces T of each blade being convex and concave respectively. The surfaces of the blades may have constant curvature in cross-section and the cross sections of the cores 68a, 68b and hence of the rotors diminish axially inwardly from the outer ends. As shown blades 70a, 7b are larger than 70c, 70d and overlap; as the cam diameter increases uniformly outwardly from the region of overlap it is greater at one end of the rotor than the other (see Fig. 1, not shown). The taper of the rotor cores tends to move material from the ends to the centre. |
