1348901 Coated products S S WAYSMAN 22 July 1971 [6 Aug 1970] 34425/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division El] A marker sheet for making road markings comprises a fibre mat impregnated on its top face with a pigmented resinous composition and on its bottom face with an adhesive composition, the mat extending at least at two opposite edges beyond the impregnations to provide unimpregnated tongues to be glued to the road surface. The mat may be of polyamide, rayon, sisal, cotton, glass or asbestos fibres or slag wool. The resinous composition may comprise polyurethane, polyester, PVC with quartz filler, nitrocellulose/maleic resin or alkyd resin/chlorinated rubber pigmented with rutile or lead chromate and together with solvents and additives. The adhesive composition may be divided into a central zone and outer ("sealing") zones, the latter being circumferential or as marginal strips and flowing more readily under pressure than the central zone as a result of being thicker or of a softer composition. The adhesive may comprise (a) ground rubber and phenolic resin, (b) epoxy resin with amine curer and carbon black and, for the sealing zone, may be (c) phenolic/ coumarone resins with asbestos filler or (d) bitumen with rubber, alkyd resin or coumarone resin together with additives such as asbestos, dolomite and rosin oil. Both compositions may be applied by spraying or spreading, stencils being used if "sealing" zones are to be formed. The marker sheet may be heated prior to laying. After application to the road surface, wheel pressure forces the adhesive composition into the unimpregnated tongues to further adhere them to the road. |
