The water-cooled double wall blast furnace tuyere incorporates a pipe between its outer and inner walls, which divides the cooling cavity longitudinally into two sections until near to the front end. The front is pref. constructed such as to result in a narrowing of the coolant space. This may be effected by tapering together of the inner and outer walls or a thickening of the insert tube front end. The coolant is circulated outwards along the outer tuyere wall. The improved coolant circulation extends tuyere service life.
