N-phenyl-1-haloacetamide derivatives - with anti-microbial activity

Title cpds. of formula (I): (where R is H, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; Y is O, S or NH, and X is halogen), which have excellent antimicrobial activity against e.g. Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton, are prepd. by reacting an amine of formula (II): with X-CH2-CO-Cl at 10-100 degrees C in an inert organic solvent. (I; X = I) may be obtd. by reacting (I; X=Cl) with KI in an inert organic solvent at 50-80 degrees c.
