<p>A layer of expansible liquid, paste or plastisol capable of forming a solid cellular material is placed on a support, expanded to form a porous cellular material, fibres are placed in the liquid to form a pile and the liquid hardened. The process yields a flexible air-permeable carpet of synthetic fibres such as nylon acrylic or polyester. The expansible layer may be supported by a woven or non-woven fibrous layer e.g. of jute, or a layer of non-adhesive paper which is detachable. A prefd. expansible material is PVC plastisol, but alternatively a vinylchloride/acetate copolymer or a polyurethane may be used. The fibres may be of polypropylene, nylon, rayon acrylic or polyester resin and may be applied in (dis)continuous form either before or after expansion.</p> |
