Novel alpha-phenoxy acetic acids, esters, amides and salts are substd. in the alpha-position by a 5-12C alkyl gp. and are substd. on the phenyl gp. and are substd. on the phenyl gp. by 1-cycloheptenyl. Prefd. cpds. are of formula (I) (where Xo is free, esterified or amidated carboxyl; R1 is 5-12C alkyl; R is 1-cycloheptenyl; Rx is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, CF3 or NO2; n is 0, 1 or 2). Cpds. (I) decrease serum lipid levels in rats at 10-50 mg/kg p.o. and are used as hypolipidaemics and intermediates for other pharmacologically active cpds. |
