Novel 2-aziridinyl 5,6-dihydro 4-H-1,3-oxazines are of formula (I) In (I) R1 is (i) 1-22C alkyl, (ii) 3-12 C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by up to six 1-12C alkyl gps. contg. a total of =24C atoms, (iii) aryl opt. substd. by 1-12C alkyl, 1-12C alkoxy ("oxialkyl" 1-12C hydroxyalkyl or halogen, (iv) opt. substd. benzyl or benzhydryl, or (v) a n opt. substd. 1-12C hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl gp.; R2-R7 are H or 1-4C alkyl). (I) are useful as corrosion inhibitors, antistatic agents, textile assistants and pharmaceuticals (unspecified). They can also be polymerised to polyethyleneimines in which the oxyazine ring remains intact. A typical cpd. is 2-(1-propylaziridinyl)-5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-oxazine. In an example, this is prepd. by reacting 1-propyl-2-cyanoaziridine with 1-amino-3-propanol in the presence of Cd acetate.
