Glass fibre-reinforced epoxy resin profiles e.g. rods, angled strips, panels, are mfd. by impregnating glass-fibre with epoxy resin or its precursors, and (partly) curing the impregnant during shaping. The impregnant is a solvent-free compsn. contg. an expanding agent.Use of expanding agent improves penetration of the glass-fibres by the impregnant. The prods. obtd. have smooth surfaces, due to the 'skin effect' when foaming is extended into the shaping operation. Absence of solvent reduces health and safety risks.
