Wood chips are delignified to convert them to paper pulp by being fed by e.g. a feed screw into a treatment chamber contg. a processing liq. The wood chips and processing liq. are heated to produce the pulp which is pref. exhausted via. an outlet at the bottom of the chamber. The temp. of the mixt. in the chamber is continuously monitored at a given point so that if the temp. measured decreases it indicates that the level of the wood chips is falling below the point, whilst if the temp. increases it indicates the level of the wood chips is rising towards this point. The level of the wood chips in the chamber is controlled in dependence on the measured temps. The level of the wood chips can be maintained accurately to ensure correct processing conditions. No mechanical parts are involved, thereby ensuring consistent operation. |
