A system to transform the photo electric receiver output signals received when checking marks on a drawing carrier into a binary value (25) by comparing the signal with a reference value. The reference value (41, 43, 44) is changed proportional to the signal amplitude (26). An alternative is that the output signal is delayed by limiting the signal in the region of a constant reference and releasing it when the amplitude is exceeded. The input signal is passed via a capacitor and a clamping circuit to prevent polarity change to one input of a comparator. The other comparator input is connected to the reference value. The signal (26) switches an integrator when larger than the reference value and so changes the input signal to the comparator. Further suitable circuits are described.
