In the magnetic amplifier, a reactor coil (2) is connected in anti parallel with a series circuit of a control coil (4) and of a control device (5) which can be a control resistor, a control reactor or a control capacitor. The start (As) of the control coil (4) is connected to the end (EDR) of the reactor coil (2) and the control device (5) is connected between the end (ES) of the control coil (4) and the start (ADR) of the reactor coil (2). Furthermore, the anti parallel circuit (2, 4, 5) is connected in series with a differential coil (3) in such a manner that the end (EDF) of the latter is connected to the end (EDR) of the reactor coil (2) and the start (AS) of the control coil (4). This magnetic amplifier does not need any premagnetisation and does not cause any unwanted delay in operation. It can be used in control technology, particularly when controlling metering systems in chemical industry, in control systems for temperature, air humidity and fresh air in airconditioning systems, in automatic controls for machines, for example machine tools, or in controlling alternating currents and electrical powers, in controls for light and heat and in computer controls. <IMAGE>
