PURPOSE:To facilitate an access to a character generator, and to reduce the number of the data of a dot pattern by doubling an index-table head address storage region and storing a head address for proportional printing to one region and a head address for constant-pitch printing to the other region. CONSTITUTION:When printing is decided to be constant-pitch pringing by a printing-pitch deciding circuit 3, a first index-table head address (d) in the character set data 61 of a heaer section 6 is read, and a first region 71A in an index table 71 is selected. A character size data and a character pattern address are called from the first region 71a and converted into pattern and stored in a line buffer 9, and outputted to a printing head and printing is executed by a constant-pitch mode. When printing is determined to be proportional printing by the printing-pitch deciding circuit 3, a second index-table head address (d') in the character set data 61 of the header section 6 is read, a second region 71B in the index table 71 is selected, and a character code signal inputted is transmitted over the second region 71B in the index table 71. |
