The detonating cord is used, for example, in oil exploration at great depths, where it must withstand high temperatures and pressures. The sheathing (11) is produced from a shrinkable hose (12) which is thermally shrunk onto the raw cord (10) containing explosive. The hose (12) consists preferably of radiation-crosslinked polyethylene. The use of a shrink hose does away with the long preparation and curing times of plastic sheathing. The process temperatures required for shrinking are acceptable with regard to safety from ignition of the explosive. The process allows in particular detonating cords for high pressures and high ambient temperatures to be produced without any problems.
