A ceramic honeycomb body (I), contg. in its unused state, materials (II) with high dielectric constant which can be heated by microwave radiation, is arranged in the radiation region of a source of microwave radiation. Prodn. of the ceramic body is also claimed, in which a honeycomb ceramic filter body (III) is soaked in a nitrate soln. of Ti, Co, Mn, Ni and/or Cu and drying the soaked body at a temp. high enough to decompose the nitrates. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used as a diesel-soot filter or as a catalyst in the detoxification of exhaust gases produced by I.C. engines (both claimed). (I) can be modified in such a way that it can be heated to a sufficient temp. to burn off any carbon black and at the same time activating the catalytic layer.
