The optical fibre coupling incorporates a sensor (21,22) in the propagation path of the laser light detecting a physical parameter representing the light intensity, fed to a transducer circuit providing a corresp. electrical signal. The sensor and the associated signal transducer are contained within a hermetically sealed housing (10) acting as a coupling cuff with the electrical output signal obtained via a lead passed through the housing wall.
