摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a small-sized optical connector for planar optical function element which has a high optical use efficiency. CONSTITUTION:This device consists of reflection mirrors 13 to 15, quarter-wave plates 16 to 18, polarization beam splitters 19 to 21, quarter-wave plates 24 to 26, and VSTEP elements 27 to 29, and images are formed between VSTEP elements by image forming lenses 22 and 23. VSTEP elements consists of light emitting parts 30 to 32, first light reception parts 33 to 35, and second light reception parts 36 to 38 respectively. Output signal light 101 emitted from the light emitting part 31 of the VSTEP element 28 has the plane of polarization converted by the quarter-wave plate 25 and is separated into input light 102 and 103 of the same light intensity to the next stage and the preceding stage by the polarization beam splitter 20. Input light 102 and 103 have planes of polarization converted by quarter-wave plates 18 and 17 and reflection mirrors 15 and 14 and are connected to the next stage and the preceding stage by polarizing beam splitters and image forming lenses and are made incident on the first light reception part 35 of the VSTEP element 29 and the second light reception part 36 of the VSTEP element 27 respectively, and thus, cascading and bidirectional communication between planar optical function elements are possible.
