The machine, e.g. for making packages from a supple film material such as a thermoplastic having a closure (3) with interlocking male and female components, consists of a system which advances the material so that it can be formed into a welded tube, with transverse welds made before and after each package is filled. The machine incorporates a crease-preventing system (100) incorporating two sets of clamps (110, 150) to hold diametrically opposite lengthwise sections of the tube, at least one of which is designed to allow the tube material to slide through it in a controlled manner. Controls (230, 270) enable the two clamp assemblies to move between open and closed positions, gripping and releasing the tube at a point adjacent to the closure (3) and at a point diametrically opposite to it. <IMAGE> |
