A spinning apparatus for producing a synthetic thread formed via filament bundle (1) comprises a spinneret from which the filaments in the bundle emerge and, below the spinneret, a blow chamber (5) which has an air-permeable wall (6) and side walls (15, 16) running along near the path of the bundle. An air current is directed inwards through the blower wall (6) across the bundle and via the side walls which have an internal width decreasing in the flow direction. Also claimed is a process for cooling the bundle.
