A polyester dispersion contains water and a biodegradable, aliphatic aromatic copolyester. Also disclosed is a process for producing the same, its use as a binder for nonwoven fabrics and for coating paper, nonwoven fabrics produced by using the disclosed polyester dispersion, a process for producing the nonwoven fabrics and their use. A preferred copolyester substantially consists of terephthalic acid, adipic acid and butanediol and further contains free acid groups which are neutralised when the aqueous dispersion is prepared.
