COMPOSITION FOR ORAL CAVITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for an oral cavity, having high neutralizing effects on pH of plaques and high promoting effects on remineralization and capable of providing excellent preventing effects on dental caries by formulating an alginate of a specific composition together with a superfine calcium carbonate having a large specific surface area. SOLUTION: This composition for an oral cavity contains a superfine calcium carbonate having 10-50 m<2> /g BET specific surface area and <=1μm average particle diameter of primary particles and an alginate in which D-mannuronic acid and L-gluronic acid are present at 0.6-4.0 ratio of the D-mannuronic acid to L-gluronic acid expressed in terms of weight ratio. A powdery or a slurrylike calcium carbonate can be used as the superfine calcium carbonate and the amount of the formulated superfine calcium carbonate is 0.01-10 wt.%. Sodium alginate is preferred as the alginate and the amount thereof formulated is 0.1-3 wt.%.
