PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To considerably improve work efficiency by directly displaying the detail of an arbitrary part in the content of a document on the display means of a display by means of selecting it. SOLUTION: Document data of a foreign language is read by a reader 11 from the storage means 10 of CD-ROM and the like and it is processed by CPU 12. It is displayed on the display part 13 of a display and the like. When a word whose meaning is not clear appears during the reading of a foreign document, the word is selected by a key operation from a keyboard 14. Dictionary data is read from a storage means 16 and the meaning content of the word is retrieved from dictionary data. One sentence containing the word is extracted from document data by the document extraction part 15a of a translation means 15 and a translation part 15b translates it. The optimum meaning content of the word in document data is selected from the meaning content of the retrieved word and the result of translation. The meaning content of the word is displayed on a display means 21. |
