PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized optical attenuator capable of optionally adjusting attenuation quantify without causing the variation of the attenuation quantity due to changes of in-use environment and the disconnection due to secular changes of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: In this variable type optical attenuator provided with two ferrules into which an optical fiber 5 structured by surrounding at least an optical fiber core 3 with an optical fiber clad 4 is inserted and fixed and whose end surfaces polished, eccentric ferrules whose hole positions do not pass their centers are used as the two ferrules 1 and their end surfaces are housed in a slit sleeve 9 while made to abut against each other so that the connection loss of the abutting part of the ferrules 1 and 1 can be adjusted by changing the relative positions of the axes of the optical fibers 3 and 3 by rotating one or both of the ferrules 1 and 1. |
