TREATMENT OF MINERAL SUBSTRATES

A method for rendering substrates water repellent by applying to the substrate a composition comprising a mixture formed by combining (i) water or a solvent; (ii) a methylhydrogen-siloxane polymer or copolymer; (iii) an alkoxysilane having the formula R>a<Si(OR?1>)4-a in which R represents an alkyl-group containing 1-10 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group containing 2-8 carbon atoms, an aryl group, or an haloalkyl group, a has a value of 1 or 2, and R<1> represents an alkyl group containing 1-6 carbon atoms; and (iv) a silicone resin. The compositions can be applied either by direct application to the substrate or by incorporation into the substrate during its manufacture.
