PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an engine capable of having a combustion temperature never generating a contaminant gas in a heating stroke and adiabatically expanding the pressure to an inlet pressure (atmospheric pressure). SOLUTION: This engine is formed of a two-cycle engine comprising a scavenging valve 5, and exhaust valve 7 and a combustion chamber 24 provided in a cylinder head. A scavenging stroke is started near a bottom dead center, and the scavenging is continued during rising after the bottom dead center. Both the valves are closed in the middle of rising to start a compression stroke. Near a top dead center, fuel is injected, or air-fuel mixture gas is ignited, combusted and heated. An expansion stroke is started during the lowering of a main piston 1. Although the internal pressure of the main piston 1 becomes negative when the load is light, the valves are opened to prevent the negative pressure. When the expansion stroke is ended, the scavenging stroke is started. One cycle is completed in this way, and the next cycle is started. In a gasoline engine, the air-fuel mixture gas is injected to the combustion chamber 24 by a sub-cylinder 11, a sub-piston 12, and a mixer or carburetor 20 during the scavenging stroke. The gas is set to the stroke capacity of the sub-piston 12 corresponding to the capacity of the combustion chamber 24 so as not to be leaked to the main cylinder 1. The product of the air-fuel ratio and compression ratio of the air-fuel mixture gas is the total air-fuel ratio, and the combustion temperature for warming the air in combustion is lowered.
