Method of reducing scram time of a nuclear reactor

Core conditions are simulated during reactor operation based on selected control rods and selected respective degrees of insertion thereof. A scram time is calculated. Depending on the result of the simulation, the rods are moved so as to increase the rate at which power would be diminished in the core should the scram occur.
