PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat build-up without deteriorating the adhesion of a rubber composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for pneumatic tires comprises (i) 100 pts.wt. diene rubber, (ii) 50-70 pts.wt. carbon black having a DBP absorption of 100 cm<SP>3</SP>/100 g or more, (iii) 4-10 pts.wt. sulfur, and (iv) organometal salts of cobalt acetylacetonate Co(acac)<SB>3</SB>and zinc acetylacetonate Zn(acac)<SB>2</SB>in an amount of the sum of respective metals present therein of 0.1-0.5 pt.wt. at a ratio (weight ratio) of Co to Zn of 80/20 to 40/60.
