An isocyanate functional prepolymer, a method for preparing the prepolymer, a polyurethane composition obtained from the prepolymer, and a base coated with the prepolymer are provided to improve storage stability and to prevent the increase of viscosity during storage period. An isocyanate functional prepolymer comprises at least one structural unit represented by the formula 1 or 2, wherein R and R' are independently a C1-C12 alkylene group, a C5-C12 cycloalkylene group, or a C6-C22 aromatic hydrocarbon group capable of containing a hetero atom; R'' is a C1-C12 alkyl group, a C5-C12 cycloalkyl group, or a C6-C22 aromatic hydrocarbon group capable of containing a hetero atom; and X is a halogen atom. The isocyanate functional prepolymer is prepared by reacting at least one polyisocyanate and at least one polyol in the presence of at least one isocyanatocarbonyl halide or isocyanatocarbamoyl halide.
