PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particle-like substance detection element and a particle-like detection sensor that prevent a particle-like substance from being peeled off, and allow detection accuracy to be improved.SOLUTION: A particle-like substance detection element 1 has a laminate part 11 in which a pair of detection electrodes 12 for detecting a particle-like substance contained in emission gas to be emitted from an internal combustion engine, and a plurality of insulation members 13 made up of a material having an electric insulation property are laminated. The particle-like substance detection element 1 has a deposited part 10 that causes at least a part of the pair of the detection electrodes 12 to be exposed from the insulation material 13 in a direction orthogonal to a laminate direction of the pair of the detection electrodes 12 and the insulation material 13, and causes a part of the particle like substance to be deposited. In the deposited part 10, at least surface roughness of the insulation material 13 arranged between the pair of the detection electrodes 12 is such that ten-point average roughness is 0.8 μm to 8.0 μm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
