<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus and an image display method therefor achieving suppression of the delay of display start and retainment of the smoothness of a moving image when displaying the moving image by successively displaying a series of still pictures. <P>SOLUTION: When starting the display of a moving image for wallpaper, the image data of a head still picture corresponding to image data prestored in a wallpaper image storing area 1101 in a storage part 110 is displayed on a display part 107, and then the image data of the second still picture to be displayed next to the head still picture is decoded by a decoding part 108.
