[Also in Division A2] In apparatus for preparing blocks of vegetable matter animal foodstuffs the desired mixture is introduced into the hopper 37, Fig. 5, from which it is fed by variable pitch conveyer screw devices 38, 39 to a screw conveyer member which extrudes the material through a two-part die 51 on which thermostatically controlled heating element 58 are located. The die is slotted at 63, Fig. 7, to provide resiliency in the side walls. The shaft 46 of the extruding screw 41 supports a conically tapered cone member 67, 66, 68, the part 68 being hollow with orifices 72. From the die the material passes on to a table 82, Fig. 6, and when its front end actuates a trigger mechanism the material is held by gripping members and a rotary saw severs the block. The severed block drops on to rollers 91 and passes to a receiving station. The central bore in the block produced by the core 66 allows stacking of a series of blocks on a vertical or horizontal rod. |
