<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode capable of improving battery characteristics such as capacity and a cycle characteristic; and to provide a battery using it. <P>SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material layer 12 contains, as a negative electrode active material, a negative electrode material containing Sn as a constituent element and contains a zinc compound in addition to it. Since the zinc compound corrodes before the negative electrode active material, the surface of the negative electrode active material is prevented from becoming active by its self-sacrifice type corrosion-resistant effect. Thereby, a decomposition reaction of an electrolyte can be suppressed, an oxide coating is prevented from being formed on the surface of the negative electrode active material, and the negative electrode active material is prevented from being formed into fine powder. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
