A torque converter 3 mounted between the flywheel 1 and gear-box 6 of a vehicle transmission is provided with an indicator lamp 15 under the conjoint control of temperature and torque responsive elements 13, 14 and arranged to be operated only when predetermined temperature and torque values are simultaneously exceeded, to warn the driver to change gear. As shown, the lamp 15 is in series with a switch 13 operated by a temperature element 12 in the converter working circuit and a switch 14 controlled by a torque spring 11 engaging the casing 10 of the converter reaction member 7. Alternatively, the switches may be of the micro type in a transistor amplifying circuit. The lamp may be arranged to illuminate a " change down " indicator.</p> |
