[Also in Divisions F1 and G3] An aircraft 1 having a plurality of direct-lift (or forward propulsion) engines 2 is provided with a common air duct 5, to supply attitude-control nozzles A (or blown flaps, not shown) and each engine compressor has a bleed line 3 connectible by respective valve 4 to a dump line 6 or to the common duct 5. The valve 4 includes interconnected butterflies 4a, 4b operable by a differential piston 13 controlled by three serially arranged monostable fluid switches. When the bleed pressure P of a given engine is equal to or greater than the duet pressure P D , the power jet from nozzle A1 is switched to A3 and provides a power jet at nozzle B1 which is switched to outlet B3 when P 2 exceeds the compressor inlet pressure P 0 by a predetermined amount. The signal in B3 switches the power jet from nozzle C1 to outlet C2, thus supplying air at pressure P 2 to chamber 20 to shift piston 13 rightwards against spring 30 to close dump line 6 and connect lines 3 and 6 when the piston subsequently returns in response to P D falling below P D , air is admitted to chamber 24 through either of check valves 25, 26 to increase the speed of return. Chambers 20, 24 communicate through orifice 27 in the piston and chamber 22 is vented at 23.
