1,259,431. Disinfecting process and apparatus. SYBRON CORP. 9 Jan., 1970 [26 March, 1969], No. 1263/70. Heading A5G. Sterilizing apparatus comprises a chamber 12 containing a heavier than air sterilizing gas, e.g. ethylene oxide or an ethylene oxidefluorocarbon mixture, in a quiescent condition having inlet and outlet ducts 14 and 16 which are positioned so that articles conveyed into and out of the chamber move downwardly into and upwardly out of the sterilizing gas as they move along the conveyor 18 in baskets 72. Means such as condensers 42 and 44 may be placed in the ducts 14 and 16 to prevent escape of gas from the chamber and a preconditioning area 10 in which the articles to be sterilized are heated and/or moistened may precede the entrance duct. A conventional controller 46 senses gas and humidity conditions in the chamber and maintains them at predetermined levels. |
