A mica layer is electrophoretically deposited upon a metallic substratum from an aqueous mica dispersion that is stabilized by inclusion of an emulsifier. The emulsifier is preferably non-ionic, e.g. fatty alcohol polyglycol ether or oleyl polyglycol ether, and may be added direct to the mica dispersion or by means of an emulsifier - containing aqueous resin emulsion such as those based upon polyacrylic acid ester, tetrafluoroethylene, silicones, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate. Electrophoresis may be carried out using a voltage of 6-120V and a current density of 10 to 30 mA/cm2.ALSO:In a process for electrophoretically depositing a mica layer from an aqueous mica dispersion that is stabilized by inclusion of an emulsifer, the aqueous mica suspension may have added thereto an aqueous silicone resin emulsion containing as an emulsifier oleyl polyglycol ether; or a solution of a methyl silicone resin in toluene may be suspended therein, and a water-soluble fatty alcohol derivative be added to the resultant suspension. |
