The block is a thin-walled (pref. 10-20 mm) concrete shell, open at the bottom, tapering upwards and closed at the top, or truncated pyramid-shaped with rectangular base, and may be reinforced with rabitz mesh or similar material, which, if protruding, assists bonding with site concrete. In preparation, concrete is poured into the gap between outer mould and appropriate mould shape, and vibrated, outer mould is removed-easily because it is conical-and hardening ensures. The resultant hollow blocks are lightweight but can be used over wide spans. |
