Halo-Methylvinyl glycidyl ethers; prep. and polymerisation. Compounds formula: (where R is (halo)alkylene, (halo)aralkylene with 0-4c in the alkylene gp n is O to 6, X is Cl, Br, I) are prepared by reaction of glyceroldihalohydrin at 20 degrees-100 degrees C with up to 6 mole alkylene oxide, followed by reaction with at least one mole epichlorohydrin in presence of a Lewis acid catalyst to give I. Dehydrohalogenation of I gives II, and of II gives III. Compounds II, III are copolymerised with alkene oxides to form unsatd. polyethers of high MW, which may be vulcanised without use of sulphur. Preferred hardening agents are root, clays, silica. |
