The groove diameter is less than the thread root diameter adjacent the groove. The flange 14 diameter is less than the thread crest diameter adjacent the groove. The flange 14 just fits in a bore to be tapped to prevent chips falling through the bore, e.g. to moving parts. The tapped bore of the socket has grooves 16 to enable it to be gripped by a tool. |
